![]() ![]() Magic is a fast game, and the whole idea that you are sacrificing tempo/mana for some long-term advantage rarely works unless something has gone horribly wrong. These enchantments and artifacts that follow this same, basic pattern are just bad, and it doesn't matter what they do really. ![]() I remember having debates with people over and over about the same problems with cards like Ooze Flux and stuff like this. The format, like usual, is just too fast for this to work, and if it does work, something went wrong. I suppose if you were playing a Black Salamander deck - just as an example - you might be happy this card exists, but that won't make it a constructed staple. While this will certainly find a home in some casual decks, I can't help but think, "Why not just wait a few more turns and play collective blessing then?" Or why not just play a dedicated white deck and run Honour of the Pure? Or why not play Boros and play Legion's Initiative? Or whatever. I wasn't around when this card was played if it's a reprint, but it's just another card that is never going to see any kind of constructed play. I mean, with this card, were you really holding a 1-3 drop to play it on turn 5 to activate it? Why is your hand not dumped by now?Īnd what makes these cards bad is that the "starts to pay for itself" part is often the same or much worse than the much cheaper alternative, so you really need to take advantage of them multiple times to get your one card worth of value out of it, but the mana cost and tempo cost simply cannot be ignored. My biggest problem with so many of these cards that are spoiled is that they cost a lot of mana, don't do anything the turn it comes into play, and then you often have to do something else - like spend even more mana or actually cast something you may not even have in your hand on turn 5 anymore - to finally get your investment to start paying off. M14 is turning out to be a real loser of a set so far, but I'm sure there's many gems yet unspoiled. It's getting really hard to be excited for these cards. ![]()
